What’s New: Interior textiles are new, as is a black and grey coloration system. The ES model becomes a new Sports package that affects look, not performance. Also available for the ES are new 16-inches lightweight aluminum wheels and a rear sway pub that improves managing.
Review: No one misses the Dodge Daytona. You will recall that the Daytona was an entrance-wheel generate sports coupe depending on the K-Car chassis. Right after 10 years on the marketplace with minimum changes, Chrysler mercifully pulled the plug on the Daytona, changing it with the Mitsubishi Galant-based Avenger sports coupe in 1995.
Avenger competes with the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Pontiac Grand Prix; whilst the Daytona was marketed as a substitute for the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Smaller, lighter in weight and fewer potent than the GP or the Monte, Dodge has was able to squeeze almost as very much interior room and as significant performance into the easily designed Avenger.

Based on Mitsubishi Galant underpinnings, the Avenger is available in base and ES flavors. The standard engine is the identical 2.0-liter 4-tube device located in the Neon, mated to a 5 various-pace handbook transmission. The five-velocity makes the Avenger really enjoyable to operate a vehicle, offering sprightly velocity.
New this year is a 16-inch cast lightweight aluminum wheel selection for the Avenger ES. The 2.5-liter V6 is hooked to a 4-rate automatic. No guide is provided with the V6, and that’s a shame. So equipped, the Avenger is slower than the common model and is woefully inadequate in assessment to the Grand Prix GT and Monte Carlo Z34. To redeem the Avenger, Dodge rates it involving base editions of the Pontiac and Chevy.
All round, the Avenger pleasantly unexpected situations. An accommodating sporty coupe, the Avenger’s only shortcoming is fragile engine choices. Put a more robust engine on your own Christmas time checklist for next year, as it won’t occur in ’98. However, with rates for the top-of-the-collection Avenger ES comparable to base editions of contending merchandise, the Avenger is an attractive part without a doubt.
